Gospel Meditation

James 1:17 "Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow."

When we fall into sin ultimately it is because we have lost sight of the truth that every good and perfect gift is from God. We fall for the deception that somehow the Lord is holding something back from us. He is being stingy. He is what one writer called, 'the Cosmic Killjoy'. The truth is that God has no problem with desires, as a matter of fact, desires are His idea. The only reason you and I have any desires at all is because He gave them to us. When we run after sinful desires, the problem is not that we seek to fulfill desire, the problem is in that pursuit we settle for too little, we settle for something or someone other than Him. John 17:3 says, "...and this is eternal life that they may know You the only true God and Jesus Christ whom you have sent." Let's chase after real satisfaction and fullness, it can only be found in one place, in Jesus.
